Michael Maguire Named Executive Chef at Gayana Eco Resort

KOTA KINABALU, MALAYSIA—Gayana Eco Resort, Borneo Malaysia announces the appointment of Michael Maguire as executive chef. Michael joins the team from New Zealand where he has successfully led a number of luxury boutique resort properties’ culinary teams.

Michael brings a wealth of international experience with him, having worked in London at the Drones Restaurant under Marco Pierre White and AXIS at One Aldwych Hotel along with serving as the private chef to the Duke and Duchess of Bedford. His most recent position was executive chef at Clearwater Resort in New Zealand where he helped the restaurant to win gold at the New Zealand Restaurant of the Year Awards.

“Michael’s experience in similar Small Luxury Hotel properties like Grassmere Lodge and The George Hotel, as well as his international experience will bring a new level of standards to the dining experience at Gayana Eco Resort,” said Scot Toon, the resort’s general manager.

“I enjoy working with the freshest ingredients available which are abundant when exploring the local markets,” Maguire says. “These combined with fresh live seafood and international ingredients will be featured across our menus. Guests will be able to choose from dishes that showcase the best ingredients and styles from local specialties to European influenced cuisine.”

Michael is a New Zealander who has spent a number of years in Singapore. He is married with two children and is excited about living in Borneo and developing the kitchen team at www.gayana-eco-resort.com.
